High Velocity Pipeline Scouring Program
Elk Grove, California
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is this project being done?
For decades, Elk Grove citizens received water that was pumped directly from the ground through pipelines to their homes. This untreated water left years of mineral build-up on the pipes. Though these minerals, such as iron and manganese, are not harmful, they can affect the color and clarity of the water.
In order to deliver clean, clear water to you we are implementing an aggressive high-velocity scouring of the pipes to remove the remaining mineral deposits.
Will I be notified before this occurs in my neighborhood?
Yes, you will be notified a few days before scouring will occur in your neighborhood.
How will this affect my home?
When the scouring occurs in your area, it is recommended that you do not wash any clothes as there may be discoloration in the water.
Is there anything I need to do?
If any brownish color is in the water after scouring has occurred, simply continue to run the water until this is clear. This will complete the pipeline cleaning process by ensuring that the pipes are clear all the way to the faucet. Colored water in the toilet will be removed simply by flushing.
